Nasty.

The audience becomes the image

Green screens, live mixing, improvised rigs, and a dance floor with a sense of mischief.

Made in the room

At Nasty, the visuals came partly from the people who had turned up to dance. The project combined a green-screen booth, live video mixing, filters, and clip capture and replay. Attendees became part of the visual material in real time.

An invitation to play

I worked on the participatory media setup: the point where cameras, playback, physical objects, and people met. Custom stage props and an improvised webcam rig—the HorseCam—added to the possibilities.

A little mischief helps

Cable-TV promos extended the project beyond the room. Inside it, the setup offered an invitation to try something ridiculous.

Inside the setup / 2018

From the booth
to the room.

The green screen hung inside a pop-up event tent, lit with aluminum clamp lamps. A camera fed the laptop; the mixed video travelled to the projector and two TVs.

Video flows from the green-screen camera through HDMI-to-Thunderbolt capture to a laptop, then through Thunderbolt-to-VGA to the projector. A VGA feed converts to HDMI, then CAT5, passes through an Ethernet switch and returns to HDMI at two TVs.
